Challenge
There is a lot of open data out there, but most of it requires a degree in data science to make any use of. The Department of Premier and challenged us to create a digital tool that made this data accessible and useful to small businesses in Victoria.
Process
We used a human centred design process to uncover the needs of small business and work with data owners across Victoria and stakeholders to prototype a tool to make Victoria’s open data accessible and useful.
I then led a 6 month agile design process of developers, designers and data scientists to realise one of DPCs largest digital data initiatives to date.
Outcome
This project put the power of data insights back in the hands of small to medium business owners. Turning complexity into something that was not only easy to use, but also fun, and useful. .
MyVictoria is a pioneering project for government open data in Australia—the first time open data been applied to this scale, with this many data sets, in a truly human-centred way. As such, it’s leading the state government’s single digital presence program and provides a framework for future open data projects
